Eight years old Kasar Kumar loves arts. Unlike other children of his age, he spends most of his time drawing at home.   Until a month ago, the young man of grade two had set one of the walls of the house as the art corner. Unfortunately, the flood swept away all his arts, damaging the wall of the house, food provisions and other utilities. For Kasar, all of sudden everything stocked. Neither had he had a place at home to study nor could he go to school. The school was also flooded.   Hari Om, his younger brother of five, parents and grandparents remained on the water for a week. “Our grandparents were sobbing most of the times; we were scared after being displaced from the flood in our own home”, Kasar recalls.   When the water level was down, it wasn’t still easy for six-membered family to set up bed and kitchen outside amidst contaminated water with the risk of vector-borne disease. Meantime, Jcycn reached out to the flood affected families with immediate support package that included wash kits, blanket, and torchlight, mosquito net, and food packets. This will hold them at least for a while.    “Jcycn came on right time”, “It was not much but crucial”, Debkum Devi, the mother joined the conversation.  Kasar and Hariom are well educated on maintaining daily personal hygiene by their mother. This has been possible even in the time of disaster with the Jcycn’s WASH kit. “My mother teaches us handwashing after using the toilet” Kasar adds. “Caritas came on right time”. “We are prevented from mosquito and snake bites.” Hariom is happy to be back at school with his brother. “I brush my teeth every day after breakfast and go to school”, he says. During the monsoon of 2019, small efforts of Jcycn has helped 1436 flood-affected families like Kasar’s for the speedy recovery so that they can restore their dailies in remote Siraha in eastern Nepal.
