Gandaki- With the aim of Adolescence girl’s friendly law, a group of girls from Eastern Nawalparasi, Devchuli drew the attention of the Hon. Chief Minister PrithiviSubbaGurung. The memorandum of 25 points was handed to the CM by the group of Adolescent Girls.
Devchuli is the second Child-friendly Municipality declared in Nepal. According to RejinaGharti Magar, Pragatinagar VDC was declared the first child-friendly area. She further added that Devchuli has been providing its continuous support. She requested the support from Chief Minister to make girls friendly law and state. Though, the province is far from the center she said the campaign has been providing pride to the whole province. She expressed her wishes for Gandaki province to be the first child-friendly and girl’s friendly province of Nepal. She requested chief minister to make the laws related to child and adolescence issues. A discussion about the critical condition of the adolescence girls and how the government should make appropriate laws was also conducted.
Another participants from Devchuli, AstaBastakoti is involving in campaign and participated in various social, religious and cultural program. Since the progress in sports is also being increased, she mentioned province government also need to pay some important attention on this sector. She also mentioned that the program is very beneficial for adolescents in communicating skills.
Jagriti Child and Youth Concern Nepal has been working for the rights of girls and child. Asha BK, Peer Educator stated that every provinces should have schools with child friendly toilets, in local level there should be child helpline and a different department working for the child. All physical structure should be child friendly inside the provinces. She explained that the school text book should contain issues related to child, youths, girls, their relationship and laws related to them.
Zebra crossing, roads, construction of cultural heritage sites along with investment in child and girls should be focused. The poor condition of roads should be maintained as well as the use of over head Bridge should be risk free and city should be transportation friendly. They also opined that the government should make child related laws and implement it. In local level the child and the youths should be provided facilities in the sport sector along with the rewards. In schools the presence of biasness should be neglected. Similarly, in the provinces gender discrimination should be stopped and the laws in favor of the girls should be done. In educational and health sector group of adolescence girls along with the active participation, insurance for the child, and investigation for any child and women issues should be guaranteed by the local government.
Chief Minister Gurung explained that the government has not been giving proper attention to the child friendly and adolescence friendly environment. Child friendly restroom and building construction campaign has already started in all the schools of gandaki province. The overall points as mentioned above would not only limit the women within the local area but work for the overall welfare of the nation. He blamed the rule of multiparty for not the smooth running of child friendly and adolescence friendly environment. However, he assured that these issues would be discussed in province council.
