Madhyabindu, Nawalpur- October 2024
In response to the devastating floods and landslides that recently struck many parts of Nepal, caused by prolonged heavy rainfall from September 26 to 29, Jagriti Child and Youth Concern Nepal (JCYCN), in collaboration with Save the Children, Madhyabindu Municipality, and the Social Protection Civil Society Network (SPCSN), has stepped up to provide crucial relief and support to the most affected communities in Madhyabindu Municipality, where JCYCN is actively implementing the Girls’ Empowerment Program. This collaborative initiative has provided critical aid worth 42 lakhs to 318 flood-affected families of Madhyabindu Municipality Ward no: -2,6, 12 and 15, helping them recover and rebuild after this natural disaster.
The distribution of aid included vital supplies such as shelter kits, mosquito nets, student kits, blankets, hygiene kits, baby packs, dignity kits, water filters, and kitchen utensils—each tailored to meet the immediate needs of families affected by the disaster. The relief distribution, wa s coordinated in the presence of key officials, including the Mayor, Deputy Mayor of Madhyabindu Municipality, and the Chief District Officer of Nawalpur, further emphasizing the local government’s commitment to supporting the community during this crisis.
The sight of families receiving these life-saving supplies brought visible relief and gratitude, as many expressed deep appreciation for the timely support. In moments of crisis, these items represent more than just physical goods—they offer hope, sense of dignity, and the promise of recovery.
The distribution of aid underscores the strength of collaboration between local government, civil society, and international organizations, with JCYCN playing a pivotal role in leading and coordinating the entire relief effort. JCYCN’s deep ties to the community ensured that aid was delivered swiftly and equitably, addressing the urgent needs of the most vulnerable families. While Save the Children provided essential resources, Madhyabindu Municipality facilitated local coordination, and SPCSN supported logistics, it was JCYCN’s leadership and on-the-ground presence that ensured the relief effort was both effective and compassionate. This joint initiative is particularly significant, as JCYCN is already running the Girls’ Empowerment Program in Madhyabindu, further highlighting its deep involvement in the municipality’s development and commitment to building resilience within the community.
The impact of this relief effort is a powerful reminder of what can be achieved when organizations unite for a common cause. As Nawalpur continues its recovery, JCYCN and its partners will remain dedicated to ensuring that families are supported every step of the way, showing that in the face of disaster, humanity and solidarity always prevail.
This initiative stands as a testament to the resilience of Nepal’s communities and the dedication of the organizations working tirelessly to provide relief in times of crisis.
